NYSP: Hudson Valley Woman Choked To Death in Domestic Incident
New York State Police charged a Hudson Valley man with murder. Police say a 37-year-old man killed a 61-year-old woman he knew.
On Wednesday, police announced an arrest following the death of a Hudson Valley woman.
On Sunday around 1:45 p.m., New York State Police from the Liberty barracks along with officers from the Town of Fallsburg Police Department responded to reports of a domestic incident. Police later found a woman near a bed unconscious.

Inside the home, police discovered the victim, Marilyn Torres, 61, unconscious on the floor next to a bed and immediately began life-saving measures. Ultimately, Torres was pronounced deceased at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
The investigation revealed 37-year-old Joseph Detzauer physically assaulted Torres by strangulation causing her death, police say.

Authorities did not say how the two know each other but did classify the incident as a domestic incident.

The investigation revealed 37-year-old Joseph Detzauer physically assaulted Torres by strangulation causing her death, police say.
Detzauer was arraigned on Wednesday on a charge of second-degree murder in front of Fallsburg Town Judge Scheinman and remanded to Sullivan County Jail without bail. He is scheduled to reappear on January 25, in the Town of Fallsburg Court.
