New York EMT Dies in Hudson Valley Crash
A young Hudson Valley EMT lost her life in an early morning crash.
On Sunday around 3:30 a.m., New York State Police from the Liberty barracks responded to State Route 55 in the town of Neversink for a report of a single-vehicle crash.
The preliminary investigation revealed that 30-year-old Erica Vilaca from Grahamsville was traveling North on Divine Corners Road in a 2014 Jeep Compass when for unknown reasons the vehicle left the road off the west shoulder, hitting a ditch and continued across State Route 55, striking a guide rail and rolling over.
Vilaca was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was declared deceased at the scene, police say.
Vilaca worked as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) at Mobilemedic EMS in Hurleyville, according to Facebook.
"RIP Erica you were taken too soon," Sarles Sarles wrote on Facebook.
State Police were assisted by Mobil Medic EMT’s, Neversink Volunteer Fire Department and NYS DEP.
The cause of the fatal crash is still under investigation.
