
Two People Killed in Separate Accidents on Ulster County Road
Tragically, two people have died in separate accidents along Route 209 in Ulster County, NY.
The Labor Day weekend ended tragically in Ulster County after two accidents that occurred within minutes of each other claimed the lives of a 58-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman.
Woman Dies in Car Accident on Route 209 in Hurley, NY
According to the New York State Police (NYSP), one person has died following a two-vehicle accident along Route 209 in Ulster County, NY.
Police said that on Monday, September 1st, at approximately 5:30 p.m., a 2019 Mercedes-Benz driven by Hawanatu I. Deen-Ayers, of Middletown, was traveling southbound on Route 209 when they attempted to pass another vehicle by crossing into the northbound lane.
As the vehicle crossed the broken yellow line, a 2021 Ford pickup truck, driven by David W. Lincoln of Accord, approached on the northbound side. In an effort to avoid a collision, both vehicles drove onto the eastern shoulder of the road and tragically hit each other head-on.
Almost all of the occupants were able to get out of the vehicles on their own, except 25-year-old Sierra Fatima Koren Thornton, of Middletown, NY, who was trapped in the Mercedes-Benz.

First responders from Empress Emergency Medical Services and the Hurley Fire Department were able to extricate Thornton from the vehicle after about 15 minutes and rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she later died.
Approximately 30 minutes later, a second accident claimed another life on Route 209.
Motorcycle Crash Claims Life of Ulster County Man
According to reports, 58-year-old Timothy Avery of Kerhonkson has died after the motorcycle he was operating on Route 209 left the roadway for unknown reasons into a wooded area.
At approximately 6:10 p.m. Monday, September 1st, the New York State Police were dispatched to the reported crash in the town of Rochester, NY.
Upon arrival, troopers began a preliminary investigation, which determined that Avery was driving a 2003 Harley-Davidson motorcycle southbound on Route 209 when the motorcycle exited the roadway into a wooded area near the western shoulder of the road.
Police said their investigation into both accidents is ongoing and asked anyone with information to contact the NYSP at Middletown at 845-344-5300.
