A New York State Police investigator is facing charges after what authorities say was a domestic dispute at a Town of Wappinger home.

Domestic Incident in Wappinger, NY

According to the New York State Police, it happened late Wednesday night, April 16th, 2026, at approximately 10:24 p.m. when troopers out of Wappinger were called to a private residence for a report of a domestic incident.

When they arrived, the victim told police they had been struck and were prevented from calling 911 for help.

New York State Police Investigator Arrested

State Police say the suspect, who was arrested, has been identified as 28-year-old Brian D. Huyghue Jr., an investigator with the New York State Police, assigned to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) in New York City.

Following an investigation at the residence, Huyghue Jr. was taken into custody and charged with Assault in the 3rd Degree and Criminal Mischief in the 4th Degree. Both charges are classified as Class A misdemeanors under New York State law.

Huyghue was later arraigned in the Town of Wappinger Court, in Dutchess County, NY, where he was released on his own recognizance.

Following the arraignment, the court also issued a temporary order of protection on behalf of the victim.

Investigation Ongoing

Investigators didn't reveal the name of the victim or the location of the incident, but did say that the case remains under investigation, and that no additional details will be released at this time.

As with all cases, the charges are accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
