Scenic Road Still Closed In New York After Fluke Storm
UPDATE: Route 218 between Cornwall and West Point is back open over a year after the washout.
It has officially been a year since motorists could travel on Route 218 to get from Cornwall to West Point New York. A severe storm did unexpected damage in July of 2023.
Route 218 was not the only roadway affected by the storm that barreled through the Hudson Valley last July 9th and 10th. Many roads and towns suffered flood damage. However, Route 218 does seem to be the road that still hasn't reopened.
In the year since the storm, The New York State Department of Transportation has been busy putting Route 218 back together. They have shared their progress and recently have shown through social media what the road will look like in the spot that was washed away.

When the storms blew through last summer many people in the Hudson Valley had damage done to their property. Weeks and months went but while New York State worked round the clock to get everything back up and running,
The storm did so much damage that The storm resulted in a State of Emergency being declared throughout the region. and a large portion of New York State.

There is still no confirmed date as to when this popular road between Cornwall New York and West Point will re-open. A lot of progress has been made in the year that has transpired since the road washed out. After all this road is literally carved out of the side of a mountain.
Hopefully, by the fall we will be able to venture back out on this scenic route that wraps around Storm King Mountain and offers a breathtaking view of the Hudson River.
