Volunteer Firefighter Stipend's in New York

Most of us know it takes a special person to become a volunteer firefighter in the Hudson Valley. Thankfully most of our local fire departments have numerous volunteers who dedicate a portion of their time to help when their neighbors need it most but unfortunately, some need more volunteers. To encourage more New Yorkers to volunteer and to reward current volunteers for what they do Gov. Hochul has announced that the Office of Fire Prevention and Control will now offer volunteers stipends for training courses they complete saying,

"Volunteer firefighters put their lives on the line to protect those in their communities, and it is time that we recognize and compensate them for the work that they have done. These stipends will allow our firefighters to continue serving their communities while also being able to provide for their families."

If a New York volunteer firefighter completes the following training courses they are eligible for the stipends according to WTEN.

  • Basic Exterior Firefighting Operations – $750
  • Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus/Interior Firefighting Operations – $1250
  • Fire Officer 1: $1000
