Residents in this Dutchess County town are angry about the possibility of another one of these businesses building a new location there.

There's a long-running joke across the Hudson Valley that many towns could consider themselves the self-storage capital of the world. Just last year we told that the Dutchess County town of Fishkill was doing everything in its power to avoid becoming the self-storage capital of New York as they imposed a 12-month moratorium on self-storage development within the town. Could nearby Hopewell Junction be next?

Proposed Hopewell Junction Building Upsets Residents

A new sign recently popped up on the side of Route 82 in Hopewell Junction informing the community that there will be a public hearing soon to discuss the possibility of a new self-storage facility according to a Facebook post on the East Fishkill Community Group page. The sign says that there will be a Planning Board public hearing at the East Fishkill town hall at 330 Route 376 Hopewell Junction NY on Tuesday, February 20th at 6 p.m. to discuss building a new self-storage facility.

Self Storage Hearing in East Fishkill

The proposal has been submitted to the town Planning Board by BDC Holdings company which states that they are looking to build a new Stack-N-Stor storage facility on Route 82 near Clove Branch Road. The possibility of another storage facility has got many that live in the Dutchess County town angry about the number of storage places that are already in the area. Folks took to social media to share their frustrations with comments like "Enough with the warehouses and storage…..", "How many storage places do we need??", and "What happened to be selective to what’s being built and where it’s being built? This town is slowly losing whatever charm it had."

Fishkill's Ugliest Construction Site, Again!

One comment struck a nerve with us as Gary wrote,

"They should take over that pile of unsightly debris and mess at the intersection of 82 & 52! Cannot believe it has yet to be cleaned up!!!"

In the last year or so we've shared our frustrations regarding the intersection Gary is referring to, about a year ago I wrote an article about it and was told by Fishkill officials that fixing or finishing the site was a top priority for the town. That was a year ago and today it still sits untouched! Who knows if the site will ever be finished or not?
