Are you a superstitious person? Do you believe the world shows you a sign to help you foretell the future?

For some people, it is numbers like the time on the clock. Other people are superstitious about things they encounter. But what about animals and bugs and stuff? What does it mean when a particular creature crosses your path?

How Long Have People Believed in Animal Omens

Groups like Sage & Moon offer lots of information regarding animals and what it means when you see one, but where did it all start? According to Medium.com, it takes root in ancient times. There is proof that ancient Egyptians believed cats could ward off evil spirits.

Growing up I am sure much like me you were told things like seeing an owl and hearing an owl hoot was bad luck. Supposedly if it happened 3 nights in a row death was at the door. These are old wives' tales but some have a grain of truth around them so that's how they become true superstitions even omens.

What is an Omen

An Omen is defined by Merriam-Webster as an occurrence or phenomenon that is believed to portend a future event. In other words you see a bunny you might be coming into money.

A Chart that Lists Animal Omens

I came across an interesting animal chart on Facebook last week that I thought was pretty accurate to what I was always told it meant when you saw certain animals or bugs. I thought it would be fun to share to see if you had heard the same things growing up.

I didn't know about the spider foretelling of a friend or the lizard representing dreams but those do seem possible. So take a look and see if what is on this chart matches any of the things you have experienced after crossing paths with one of these ominous creatures.

After looking over the chart I would agree with most of it. Here in the Hudson Valley, we will encounter some form of all of these beautiful creatures so make a mental note of this chart because the next time you see a Dragonfly you should be looking for a Fairy. This chart could also add a whole new layer to animal spotting.
