Announced: First Dutchess County Hazardous Waste Disposal Event of 2023
The popular household hazardous waste disposal and electronics recycling event is returning to Dutchess County. Save the date for May 13 at the Dutchess County Public Works Facility for the first of three events for the year.
To some this may not sound like a big deal, but to many in the area, this community event is highly sought out every year, and fills up quickly.
Here's the details you need to know in order to participate in the event next month.
Dutchess County Household Hazardous Waste Disposal & Electronics Recycling Event Set for May 13th
Dutchess County residents (ONLY) are invited to the next hazardous waste disposal and electronics recycling event scheduled for Saturday May 13th from 8am until 12:30pm. Drop-off will take place at the Dutchess County Public Works Facility, which is located at 626 Dutchess Turnpike in Poughkeepsie.
Online registration will open on April 13th for the event, which is first-come, first-served. There is a limit to the first 400 households, pre-registration is required, and there is a $10 registration fee. In previous years the event has reached capacity fairly quickly.
Again, this event is for Dutchess County residents ONLY, and pre-registration is required, and can be completed either online here, or by calling 845.463.6020 and then mailing in or dropping off payment by check.
Participants should be advised that day of, there is often a wait on site, so participants should be advised that they may need to wait in line.

What Items Are and Aren't Accepted During Hazardous Waste Disposal & Electronics Recycling?
While it may be inciting to just start loading the car up with anything and everything in the house, it is important to remember that only certain items (that cannot be thrown away during regular recycling or garbage pick up) that canoe dropped of at this event. Containers larger than ten gallons will not be accepted.
Some of the items on the list include:
- television sets
- computer monitors
- telephones
- pesticides
- pool chemicals
- lead based paints
- kerosene
- flammable liquids
- metal polish

- latex or oil based paints, stains, varnishes
- ammunition or explosives
- asbestos products
- debris
- tires
- furniture
- medical waste
- car batteries
- motor oil
