A Hudson Valley woman was fatally hit by a car that fled the scene. The alleged driver was found and arrested.

The New York State Police in Liberty announced on Monday, the arrest of 31-year-old Kathleen Nober of Callicoon. Nober was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident, a class D felony.

On Monday, Feb. 3, around 4:43 p.m., troopers responded to a 911 call reporting a woman was hit by a motor vehicle on State Route 52 in Youngsville, in the town of Callicoon. The car that hit the woman left the scene, police say.

The victim, 52-year-old Nusreta Mujevic of Youngsville, was treated at the scene by Jeffersonville Paramedics and members of the Youngsville Fire Department and was then airlifted to Westchester Medical Center, where she died from her injuries.

A police investigation identified Nober as the alleged operator of the vehicle that left the scene. She was arraigned in Town of Liberty Justice Court and is scheduled to reappear on Feb. 18, before the Town of Callicoon Justice Court.

State Police continue to investigate this incident in conjunction with the Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office. Anyone with information is asked to call the New York State Police Liberty BCI at 845-292-6600.
