A Hudson Valley middle school teacher was killed when his car crashed into a tree on his drive to work Thursday morning.

State Police say 40-year-old Christopher Corwin of Glen Spey was traveling east on Route 6 in the Town of Greenville. During his drive, he failed to make a turn and the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree.

Corwin was transported by ambulance to Orange Regional Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries. The accident is under investigation.

Corwin was a teacher at Minisink Valley Middle School.

"He touched and inspired the lives of many, and he will be greatly missed," Minisink Valley superintendent Brian C. Monahan wrote in a statement. Monahan said Corwin was a “beloved teacher” who “has been an integral and invaluable part of our school district, consistently devoting time and talents that went beyond curriculum requirements and the educational needs of his students.”

School counselors and psychologists are available Friday, and in the weeks ahead, to offer support to students.
