A Honduras citizen living in the Hudson Valley is heading to prison for sexually abusing a child inside a local church.

On Wednesday in Ulster County Court, 53-year-old Julio Turcios-Carias of Kingston was sentenced to seven years in prison, followed by 10 years of post-release supervision.

A full “no contact” order of protection was issued for the boy until November 2, 2041. After Turcios-Carias is released from prison he will have to register as a New York State sex offender for at least 20 years.

According to the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office, the abuse happened at the Inglesia De Dios on Broadway in the City of Kingston.

The child, who was younger than 11, was left alone with Turcios-Carias. The nature and date of the abuse wasn’t released.

“It is appalling that this man would choose a location that others hold sacred to gain access to an innocent child,” Ulster County District Attorney Holley Carnright stated.

Turcios-Carias is a resident of Honduras who has lived in the United States for about 15 years. He may face collateral consequences by the federal immigration authorities, Carnright said.
