Get Ready To Pay A Lot More For Most Groceries In New York State

Food experts believe you will start paying even more for groceries in the Empire State.

The USDA predicts prices for groceries, which is already significantly higher than one year ago, are going to continue to rise.

The Consumer Price Index for Food in February 2022 was nearly 8 percent, (7.9 percent) higher than in February 2021, according to the USDA's Economic Research Service.

Prices For Groceries in New York Expected to Increase

The USDA warns increases will likely continue.

"Food price increases are expected to be above the increases observed in 2020 and 2021. In 2022, food-at-home prices are predicted to increase between 3.0 and 4.0 percent, and food-away-from-home prices are predicted to increase between 5.5 and 6.5 percent. Price increases for food away from home are expected to exceed historical averages and the inflation rate in 2021," the USDA stated in its Food Price Outlook.

All Food Prices in New York Will Rise By About 5 Percent

The USDA predicts all food prices will rise by about 5 percent.

"All food prices are now predicted to increase between 4.5 and 5.5 percent; food-away-from-home prices are predicted to increase between 5.5 and 6.5 percent; and food-at-home prices are predicted to increase between 3.0 and 4.0 percent in 2022," the USDA states.

Chicken, Milk, Beef, Cereal, Fruit And Veggies Will All Cost More in New York

The USDA predicts the prices of chicken, milk, beef, cereal, fruit and veggies will continue to increase. Some prices will increase by 10 percent or more. See the full predictions below:
