Former Hudson River Psychiatric Center Fire Needed 1 Million Gallons of Water to Extinguish
At approximately 6 a.m. Thursday, the Fairview FD responded to a report of a fire at a building on the grounds of the former Hudson River Psychiatric Center in Poughkeepsie.
Upon arrival, the fire was confirmed and assistance was requested from several departments including Poughkeepsie, Roosevelt, and New Hamburg along with Mobile Life and the Town of Poughkeepsie PD.
The primary fire was knocked down around 8:30 and firefighters from Fairview were still on the scene at 9:15 to check for flare-ups.
According to the town water department and Fairview Chief Chis Maeder, over one million gallons of water were used to extinguish the blaze.
The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation.
The owner of the property, EFG/DRA Heritage, LLC has offered a $5000 reward for information leading to the arrest of individual(s) who caused this fire. Anyone having information about the fire is asked to contact the Town of Poughkeepsie Police at (845) 485-3666.
