Felony DWI Charge Sends Savage To Jail

Monticello Police have arrested 56-year-old Benny R. Savage of Lake Luzerne on charges of Felony DWI and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the first degree.

Lt. Mark Johnstone says that his officers stopped Savage for a traffic infraction while he was operating his 1979 Dodge Aspen in the village on Wednesday night. Upon suspicion of intoxication, Savage was taken into custody and was administered a chemical test at the police station.

Test results revealed a Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) of .22%. Savage had a previous DWI conviction in Hudson Falls in 2015 and as a result his license had been revoked. At the time of his arrest Savage was also operating a vehicle without an ignition interlock device.

Savage was arraigned and remanded to Sullivan County Jail on $10,000 cash bail.
