Fatal Wrong Way Crash Shuts Down Palisades For Hours in New York

Police are investigating the cause of a fatal head-on crash on the Palisades Parkway in the Hudson Valley.

On Sunday at 4:50 a.m., New York State Police from Haverstraw and Monroe barracks responded to a two-vehicle crash on the Palisades Interstate Parkway in Stony Point.

The initial investigation revealed that a Honda Civic traveling northbound failed to negotiate a bend in the roadway resulting in the vehicle crossing over the median into Southbound traffic striking a 2020 Mercedes Benz head-on, police say.

The driver of the Honda Civic, 29-year-old Raul B. Ortunouzha from Peekskill, was pronounced dead at the scene. The unnamed operator of the Mercedes Benz suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. The Palisades Interstate Parkway was shut down near the crash site for several hours.
