Famed Goodyear Blimp Spotted in Hudson Valley (PHOTOS)
If you looked up in the sky yesterday in the Hudson Valley and thought you spotted the Goodyear blimp, your eyes weren't deceiving you.
The Goodyear blimp was staged at Orange County Airport in Montgomery on Monday. The zeppelin stopped at the airport en route to Monday night’s NFL game between the Jets and Browns at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.
Orange County Airport is one of the staging areas for the iconic blimp when it’s in the area for New York City sporting events, officials say.
The blimp departed from Orange County around 6:30 p.m. on Monday and cruised at speeds of about 25 miles per hour from the Hudson Valley to Metlife Stadium in New Jersey. Max speed for the Goodyear blimp is 75 mph.
The Goodyear blimp has been in operation since 1925. It is 247 feet long, weighs 15,800 pounds and seats two pilots and 12 passengers, according to the Orange County Government.
