Carmen M. DeJesus, age 85, of Plattekill, NY passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital. Born on July 22, 1931 in Utuado, Puerto Rico she was the daughter of the late Hipolito and Dolores (Lopes) DeJesus.

Carmen a retired Jeweler spent her earlier years in the Bronx after her family came to the United States and later resided in Jersey City, NJ where she raised her family and owned and operated two Jewelry Stores. Carmen move to the Hudson Valley and operated a third Jewelry store Carmella Jewelers in Newburgh until her retirement. A larger than life woman of many talents she will be missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include one son, Kevin Vale of Kingston; three daughters, Irene Hanewich of Accord, Yvonne Velez and Mireya Velez both of Plattekill; five grandchildren Janice, Stephonie, Michelle, Elliott and Camille. Ten great grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews and her godchild also survive.

Predeceasing her where three sons; Victor Schmidt, Steven Velez and George Velez.

Friends are invited to call at White, Venuto & Morrill Funeral and Cremation Service, 188 North Plank Road, Newburgh, NY on Friday, January 20, 2017 from 3 to 6 PM. A funeral service will commence, 11 AM, Saturday, January 21, 2017 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Modena Rural Cemetery.
