‘Beloved’ Marine Veteran Killed on Christmas in Beacon, New York
Help is needed as officials still try to piece together the murder of a "beloved" Hudson Valley veteran on Christmas.
The City of Beacon Police Detective Division is actively investigating a stabbing that occurred on Christmas Day. Anyone with information is asked to contact 845-838-5061 or email detectives@beaconny.gov.
"At this time, it appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no danger to the residents of Beacon," the City of Beacon Police Department wrote on Facebook.
Beacon police later confirmed to Hudson Valley Post Rene Vino was fatally stabbed on Christmas.
Rene ‘Scout’ Vivo, a longtime resident of Beacon died "tragically" on Christmas Day, according to his obituary.
"My Uncle was killed on Dec 25th 2021 in Beacon, New York. He was a Marine Veteran who was beloved in the Beacon Community," Selaine Garcia wrote in a GoFundMe to help pay for funeral costs.
Vivo enlisted in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War era in 1977 and received an honorable discharge for serving his country.
The GoFundMe raised nearly $11,000, enough to cover the funeral costs, and the donation page was turned off.
