Virginia Sophia DeLuca Saltalamachia entered into rest on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was born in Newburgh, NY to the late Sebastian and Rose (Lizzi) DeLuca on May 28, 1925. She was married to the late Angelo Saltalamachia, who predeceased her on December 30, 2014.

Virginia graduated from the Newburgh school system and was employed as a sewing machine operator in her earlier years, was a homemaker, and later worked at Active Specialty in Newburgh as an Assembler.

She is survived by her brother, William DeLuca; her children, Anthony and Gerald; grandchildren, Andrew, Danielle and Gianna; great-grandchildren Maddison and Abigail; and daughters-in-law Sharen and Elyse. In addition to her husband Angelo, she was predeceased by her brother Joe and her sister Mary.

The family would like to thank the staff from St. Luke’s Hospital 5th Floor Unit for their care and compassion during her last days. We would also like to thank her caregivers who made her life comfortable in her later years.

Visitation will be held from 4-7pm on Wednesday, January 18 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, January 19 at the funeral home, with burial following in Calvary Cemetery, New Windsor.
