Update: Hudson Valley Teen Student Killed After Football Game

We've learned more information about the killing of a Hudson Valley high school junior who was stabbed to death following a football game in Dutchess County. Police are continuing to ask for help.

On Friday around 9 p.m., the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office responded to a stabbing that took place immediately after a football game at Arlington High School in LaGrange.

Deputies responded along with the New York State Police, Town of Poughkeepsie Police, City of Poughkeepsie Police, Town of East Fishkill Police, and Village of Wappingers Falls Police to assist Deputies who were dealing with a large fight and stabbing that occurred just after the game.

A 16-year-old Arlington student was stabbed. He was transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital where they were later pronounced dead.

On Saturday, the Arlington School District confirmed Quraan Smith, a junior at Arlington High School, was the victim.

"Quraan’s death is a tragic event for the entire Arlington community," Arlington Superintendent of Schools Dr. Dave Moyer said in a statement. "Our thoughts and prayers remain with his family and friends. We will work with our school community to support the family."

Nestor A. Ortiz-Ocampo, 18, of the City of Poughkeepsie was interviewed by police and taken into custody in connection with a stabbing. He was charged with manslaughter, a felony.

Ortiz-Ocampo is a former student at Arlington High. It's still not clear what sparked the fight.

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public's assistance. Anyone who witnessed has information or possesses video or photographs surrounding the fatal stabbing is urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau at 845-486-3820. All information will be kept confidential, police say.
