Police: Teen ‘Joked’ About Shooting up Hudson Valley Schools
A 14-year-old Hudson Valley teen was arrested after a social media post threatened shootings at a number of local schools.
On Thursday around 7:30 p.m., Instagram user "blaxckhood" posted a photo with the message he was going to shoot up the schools in Monticello on Friday.
The photo showed only a black box with the caption, "I am going to shoot up Monticello High School, Middle school/ elementary school on 9/21/18 get ready!"
A screenshot of the photo was posted to Facebook and shared by many. As a precaution, the Monticello School District canceled all classes and after-school events on Friday.
On Friday afternoon, a 14-year-old boy was charged with making a terroristic threat, a class D felony.
The Monticello School District student said the post was a joke and he never planned to hurt anymore, police say.
The boy's family has worked with police and authorities confirmed the teen never had any access to any guns.
