Police: Mom was Highly Intoxicated While Caring for 1-Year-Old

Police say a local woman was so intoxicated she passed out on the floor while caring for her one-year-old child.

State Police at Ellenville charged Crystal VanWanger, 30, of Napanoch with endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.

On Saturday, authorities received a report of a highly intoxicated woman with a one year old child in her care. Shortly after State Police say they found VanWanger in her home, highly intoxicated, and passed out on the living room floor.

VanWanger’s one-year-old daughter was found by police sleeping in another room.

Knowing the risk of consuming enough alcohol to render herself unconscious, VanWanger placed her daughter’s physical well-being at risk, officials say. VanWanger was arrested and her daughter was turned over to family members.

VanWanger was arraigned in the Town of Wawarsing Court who remanded her to the Ulster County Jail on $500.00 cash bail or $1000.00 secured bond. She is due back in court on May 20.
