A Newburgh woman is accused of leaving the scene of an accident after hitting at pedestrian at Broadway and William Street in the city.

A 57-year-old woman was crossing the street on Friday at 8:20AM when she was struck by a car turning onto Broadway. The driver, 35-year-old Xiomara Gutierrez, drove off after the accident, the City of Newburgh police said in a press release.

The pedestrian was transported by Mobile Life Ambulance to St. Luke's Hospital, where she was treated and released.

Gutierrez later went to the City of Newburgh Police Department, where she acknowledged her involvement in the accident. Gutierrez told police she hadn't seen the pedestrian because of morning sun glare and left the scene after a crowd gathered, which she had perceived as threatening.

After the accident, she drove to work and told her employer and her family about the accident. After speaking with them, she went to the police department.

She was charged with a misdemeanor count of leaving the scene of a personal injury motor vehicle accident and released.
