Police: California Man Arrested Following Head-On Drunken Crash
A California man was allegedly drunk when he injured a 65-year-old Hudson Valley woman in an head-on collision.
On Thursday around 7:20 p.m., the Red Hook Police Department responded to a report of a two-car head-on crash at the intersection of Route 9G and West Market Street in the Town of Red Hook.
A 2007 Volvo driven by a 65-year-old Tivoli women was hit head-on when a 2006 Mercury failed to yield the right of way and made a left hand turn from 9G onto West Market Street, police say.
The driver of the Mercury, 30-year-old Brian S. Shickle Jr., of California, was interviewed on scene and is accused of driving drunk. When officers tried to arrest Shickle he allegedly physically resisted. He was placed in custody following a brief struggle, police said.
Shickle was charged with driving while intoxicated, a felony based on a prior misdemeanor DWI conviction in 2013. He was also charged with resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration, both misdemeanors, and multiple traffic infractions.
The 65-year-old Tivoli women suffered minor injuries and was transported to Northern Dutchess Hospital for further treatment.
