Liberty Car Accident Claims Life of 8-Year-Old
New York State Troopers are investigating a two car accident in Liberty that claimed the life of 8-year-old Alberto Corchado.
Troopers claim that on December 19th at approximately 6:10 pm a Nissan driven by Zakiyah Toro, 23, of Liberty was traveling south on Sullivan Avenue in Liberty when the vehicle crossed into the northbound lane and was struck head-on by a Chevy Cobalt. Toro's vehicle was also occupied by 8-year-old Alberto Corchado and 5-year-old Zyiarah Toro.
According to police the 8-year-old was transported to Catskill Medical Center and then airlifted to Westchester Medical Center with internal injuries. The child was pronounced dead at Westchester Medical Center. The driver and younger passenger were treated at Catskill Medical Center for minor injuries.
The State Police were assisted at the scene by the Liberty Fire Department. Firefighters extricated the occupants of the Chevrolet who were then treated at Catskill Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.
