Hopewell Junction – James G. Patterson, 82, a 55 year resident of Dutchess County, died on January 15, 2017, surrounded by his loved ones.

Born on October 23, 1934 in Washington Heights, New York. Jim was the son of late James and Mary Patterson. Jim proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

On October 20, 1956 in Dryden, NY, Jim married the love of his life, Joyce Valley Patterson who pre-deceased him on April 28, 2013. Jim met Joyce while on patrol with the New York State Police.

Jim had been employed by the New York State police for over 35 years until he retired as a Staff Inspector in 1991. Jim dedicated his life to his Family and career with the New York State police. Jim loved to play golf and basketball during his free time.

Jim is survived by his sons, George G. Patterson of Hopewell Junction and Scott J. Patterson and his wife Laura of Lagrange, New York; his grandchildren, Sean, Jimmy, Lindsey, Courtney, Leigh Anne, and Michael; his daughters-in-law, Lisa Patterson and Dawn Wiemer; and a very special friend, Ryan Curtin.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4p to 8p at the McHoul Funeral home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by a funeral service at 8 PM. A graveside service officiated by Rev. Taylor Holbrook will be held on Thursday at 11 AM at Fishkill Rural Cemetery with military honors.
