What Is This Strange Machine Doing To New York Bridges?

I find that I learn alot about New York businesses, historical information and more. A lot of informative tips come from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and Department of Transportation.

New York State Department Of Transportation Shares Helpful Info

The New York State Department of Transportation is also known as the NYSDOT. Their mission is to ensure that New York state residents, workers and visitors

"have a safe, efficient, balanced and environmentally sound transportation system."

Their main office is located on Wolf Road in Albany, NY.

In November 2023, the NYSDOT made a post on social media informing residents what lines on roads. They also described why they do this during the winter months.

"Have you noticed these lines on NY roadways before some winter storms? This is called “salt brine” and before some storms, our crews place brine on roadways to prevent ice and snow from sticking."

Being a Hudson Valley native, I have always seen those lines on the road before an expected snowstorm but didn't know what they meant until the NYSDOT shared this helpful post.

Recently, the NYSDOT shared helpful pictures and information about an inspection of a New York bridge.

NYSDOT Explains Strange Machine Near New York Bridges

The NYSDOT made a post on social media about UBIU. I was interested in what UBIU meant and wanted to know more just by looking at the pictures they posted.

The NYSDOT explained that UBIU means Under Bridge Inspection Unit. 

"It is a series of booms with a bucket at the end allowing our inspectors to get a better and safer view of the areas they need to see during a bridge inspection."

They shared pictures of NYSDOT bridge inspectors and interns in the Utica, NY area during a recent inspection. Pictures embedded from the NYSDOT highlight the inspection of the Leland Avenue Bridge in Utica, NY over the Erie Canal.

The NYS DOT also shared that work zones can appear different throughout New York state. Some work zones vary by project and they reminded residents to be mindful and pay attention on New York roadways.

Facebook users shared their opinions from the NYSDOT's Facebook post about the Under Bridge Inspection Unit and pictures highlighting a recent inspection.

"Just wondering if you pointed out areas of concern using a drone before needing this truck?"

They also mentioned,

"We use them for inspections and for service work also emergency repairs they are a very necessary tool"

"I use to run one, years ago. Loved it."
