Police said the couple's Ford crossed over the double yellow line, traveled several hundred feet along the sidewalk, and slammed into a rock wall before crashing into a 2015 Toyota driven by a 52-year-old woman from Rhinebeck, NY.

The force of the collision launched the Ford into the air before it rolled over onto its roof.

The Elizaville husband and wife were both rushed to MidHudson Regional Hospital, where police say they remain in critical condition with serious injuries. The driver of the Toyota suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening and was taken to Northern Dutchess Hospital for treatment.

South Broadway remained closed for just over an hour while first responders worked to clear the scene and investigators gathered evidence. Police say the investigation into the crash remains ongoing, but they believe the suspected medical emergency may have played a role in the devastating chain of events.
