Trump Renamed Lake Ontario, So These New York Landmarks Could Be Next
President Donald Trump has officially decided that Lake Ontario isn't American enough. Could these New York landmarks be next?
Last week we learned that President Donald Trump has signed an executive order directing the federal government to begin referring to Lake Ontario as Lake America, because apparently, after hundreds of years, the lake was ready for a rebrand. The name change has already caused plenty of reaction in New York, Canada, and pretty much anywhere people have ever looked at a map.
New York officials have made it clear that they aren't necessarily going along with the change, while Canadians are sticking with Lake Ontario. Google has even started displaying "Lake America" for Google Maps users in the United States.
So if we're going to start renaming major bodies of water and landmarks, I figured we might as well have some fun with it, right? There are plenty of famous places across New York that could probably use a patriotic makeover. Here are five places and landmarks that could be renamed...Let's start right here in the Hudson Valley.
Hudson River Should Become the America River
The Hudson River has been called the Hudson River for hundreds of years, but why stop there? If we're renaming things based on American greatness, I think The America River has a pretty nice ring to it. Imagine saying, "We're taking the America River to Poughkeepsie."
Honestly, I don't hate it. Of course, we'd probably have to rename the Hudson Valley too.

Empire State Building Should Become the America State Building
New York is the Empire State, but apparently we aren't allowed to have names that aren't patriotic enough anymore. So why not take one of the most recognizable buildings in the world and give it an update?

It doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, but neither did Lake America at first. Give it a few years, and we'll probably get used to it...LOL!
Bear Mountain Should Become Freedom Mountain
If you're going to rename a mountain, you might as well go big. Bear Mountain is a great name, but Freedom Mountain sounds like something you'd see on a giant American postcard. "Welcome to Freedom Mountain, home of hiking, spectacular views, and several people who underestimated how difficult that trail was." Plus, it would give us an excuse to rename the Bear Mountain Bridge.

Walkway Over the Hudson Should Become the Walkway Over America
This one seems obvious. The Walkway Over the Hudson is already one of the most popular attractions in the Hudson Valley, so why not take it one step further?

Welcome to the Walkway Over America. You could walk from Poughkeepsie to Highland while feeling an overwhelming sense of patriotism the entire time. And let's be honest, the name would probably look pretty good on a T-shirt.
Adirondack Mountains Should Become the American Mountains
Finally, we're going big. The Adirondack Mountains are one of the most beautiful parts of New York, but the name doesn't exactly scream "America." So let's fix that.
From now on, welcome to the American Mountains.
Want to go camping?
You're going to the American Mountains. Want to hike? American Mountains. Want to spend three hours trying to find a parking spot at a popular trailhead? Still the American Mountains. Of course, I'm joking. But after watching Lake Ontario become Lake America, I'm not ruling anything out anymore.
