Hudson Valley Man Who Shot Local Man Found in PA, Police Say
A Hudson Valley man who’s accused of shooting another local man was found and arrested in another state, after fleeing the Hudson Valley.
On Wednesday around 2:40 p.m., a 28-year-old man from Monticello was shot in his hand near 62 Park Avenue in the Village of Monticello.
The victim had already been driven from the scene of the shooting to a hospital in a private vehicle prior to Monticello police arriving on the scene.
The unnamed man’s injuries were non-life threatening, but he had to undergo reconstructive surgery to his left hand.
An investigation by Monticello Police with assistance from the Sullivan County District Attorney Office, New York State Police and the Sullivan County Sheriff Office identified 37-year-old Akeel Abdul Jamiel of Monticello as the alleged shooter.
A warrant was issued charging Jamiel with felonies for assault, criminal use of a firearm and criminal possession of a weapon.
Monticello police detectives were able to track Jamiel to Erie, P.A. On Monday, Jamiel was arrested by Pennsylvania police as a fugitive from justice. He is currently being held in Erie county jail pending extradition back to Monticello.
