Police: Hudson Valley Man Placed Explosive Device On Ex’s Car
Following a long investigation, a Hudson Valley man is accused of placing an improvised explosive device on top of his ex-girlfriend’s car.
On March 5, Town of Kent police received a call from a Lake Carmel woman who said something suspicious was on her car.
Arriving police found a number of screws thrown around the woman’s home and what appeared to be an improvised explosive device on top of her car, police say.
A Putnam County Sheriff’s Office explosive detecting K-9 was bought to the home and indicted the device was in fact an explosive device.
Police contacted the Westchester County Bomb Squad. Bomb squad members rendered the device safe and collected it as evidence.
The woman also told police that two days prior her tires were slashed and her ex-boyfriend, 49-year-old James Schrull of Kent, was spotted near her home.
When police interviewed Schrull, he denied placing the explosive device on his ex-girlfriends car.
No fingerprints were found on the device. However, Schrull’s DNA was found on the explosive device, police say. He was then charged with criminal possession of a weapon, a felony.
Schrull was remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond. More charges may follow, police say.
