We've learned more about the three-year-old boy and grandma who were fatally hit by a garbage truck in the Hudson Valley.
On Monday, the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department confirmed the police department was investigating a serious vehicle vs pedestrians automobile accident that involved a 3-year-old child.
Police confirmed the accident occurred at the intersection of Mary Avenue and Stanley Street in the Town of Poughkeepsie shortly after 1 p.m. on Monday.

The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department later reported a 2019 Royal Carting garbage truck operated by a 41-year-old man collided with two pedestrians on Stanley Street at the intersection with Mary Avenue at 1:08 p.m. on Monday.
3-Year-old Fatally Hit By Garbage Truck in Poughkeepsie, NY
A 3-year-old boy was one of the two people hit by the Royal Carting garbage truck, according to police. The 3-year-old boy succumbed to his injuries at the scene, police say.
The boy's 72-year-old grandmother was also hit. She was transported to Westchester Medical Center with serious injuries.

About another hour later, police confirmed the 72-year-old succumbed to her injuries later in the day.

A GoFundMe for the family gave more information on what happened and identified the deceased.
Rhys Thomas, 3, and Debra Clegg, 72, were fatally hit by the garbage truck, according to the GoFundMe.
"A dear, beloved Poughkeepsie family lost both their 3-year-old son Rhys Thomas and their grandmother Debra Clegg in a tragic pedestrian/vehicle collision," the GoFundMe states.

Rhys and his grandmother were enjoying an afternoon walk when they were hit by the truck, according to GoFundMe.
"They were out for a walk enjoying the beautiful spring sunshine. Please help us to defray funeral costs or anything else this family needs at this unimaginable time. They all are bright beautiful souls who have made a wonderful impact on our community in many ways. Please help them out in any way you can," the GoFundMe adds.

Fatal Accident Under Investigation in New York
It's unclear at this time why the two were on the road or what may have led to the accident. Police are asking for help as they continue to investigate.
"The investigation is ongoing and the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department is asking any witnesses to the collision to contact the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department Traffic Enforcement Unit at 845-485-3680," the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department said.
