A car crash in Saugerties killed an 80-year-old Saugerties man.

On Sunday around 10:30 a.m., Saugerties Police responded to a 911 call for a reported motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Route 32 and Glasco Turnkpike.

An investigation revealed that a 2011 Chevrolet Impala driven by 80-year-old Richard Granville, of Saugerties, drove through the intersection, failed to stop for a posted sign, or yield to the right-of-way on coming traffic and was struck by a Ford Pickup 4x4 driven by Vincent Depola, 50, of Malden. The accident caused Granville to become stuck in his car.

Granville was extricated from the car by the Glasco Fire Department. He was treated at the scene by paramedics from Diaz Ambulance and transported to the Health Alliance Hospital, Broadway Campus in Kingston. He was then flown by helicopter to Albany Medical Center. He underwent surgery and died from his injuries at Albany Medical Center.

Depoala was treated for minor injuries at Health Alliance Hospital and released.

Saugerties Police is requesting that anyone who may have witnessed the accident and has yet not spoken to police to please call 845-246-9800.
