Breakneck Connector Project Moves Forward With New Construction Updates
Breakneck Ridge Construction Update
We're about a year into the big construction project happening at Breakneck Ridge.
In an email from Hudson Highland Fjord Trail, they shared an update regarding the Breakneck Connector, Wades Hill Lot and Nimham Extension trail.
The email explains that the recent progress includes "the installation of piles on the west side of Route 9D." They will be used to "support a wider pedestrian path from the Breakneck Bridge eastern landing to the Breakneck Ridge trailhead."
They add that the sidewalks and the paving project for parallel parking "on the east side of Route 9D" is complete!
Additional Projects Continue On Breakneck Trails
The email goes on to share details about the work taking place on the Nimham Extension trail.
Hudson Highlands explains the Nimham Extension trail will "connect the Wade's Hill parking lot to the existing Nimham Trail."
So far they've installed footing for "seasonal stream-crossing bridges" and they've "continued trailbuilding."

Which Breakneck Trails Are Closed During Construction?
When we first learned that Breakneck would be undergoing major construction, we wondered what trails would be affected.
There are 3 trailheads that are closed during the duration of the construction including: Breakneck Ridge, Wilkinson Memorial, or Lower Brook trailheads.
The Breakneck Connector Project will keep these trailheads closed until 2027.
Breakneck is obviously a popular hiking trail in the area, leaving many hikers disappointed that they're missing out on their favorite trail.
