Boyfriend Sentenced After Death of Hudson Valley Toddler
A boyfriend who pleaded guilty to beating and shaking his Hudson Valley girlfriend’s toddler to death was sentenced.
According to the prosecution, on August 31, 2014 32-year-old Carlton Brown called 911 to report a child in distress. Emergency Services arrived and were told his girlfriend’s 2-year-old baby, Kali Mack, fell off the bed in her Mount Vernon home.
Kali Mack was taken to Montifiore Mount Vernon Hospital and later the Children’s Hospital at Montifiore in the Bronx and admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
On Sept. 3rd, 2014 Kali was pronounced dead.
An autopsy revealed the cause of death was abusive head trauma, in the manner of a homicide.
In court, Brown admitted to subjecting Kali Mack to blunt force trauma and forcibly shaking her body which caused her to sustain abusive head trauma and retinal hemorrhages.
Following his guilty plea Brown faced a maximum sentence of twenty five years in prison. On Thursday, in Weschester County Court, Brown was sentenced to 12 years in state prison.
Brown was remanded to the custody of the New York State Department of Corrections.
