Your Old American Flag is Needed for Sunday's Watchfire

Worn out American flags from across the state will be set on fire this Sunday night. If you have one please bring it to one of these drop-off locations.

Governor Cuomo designated several New York locations as official flag drop-off points. The flags are being collected by the Vietnam Veterans of America. All flags that are collected will be properly folded before being incinerated in a giant watchfire on Sunday night.

The Governor urged New Yorkers to bring their flags in for a respectful disposal saying, "If you or any of your friends or neighbors are in possession of a tattered flag, I encourage you to visit one of our various drop-off locations across the state to allow the flag to be properly disposed of."

There are several locations throughout the state where you can bring your worn out flags, but the only one in the Hudson Valley area is located in the Eleanor Roosevelt State Office Building on 4 Burnett Blvd. in Poughkeepsie. Flags will be accepted until Thursday.

The watchfire will take place this Sunday, May 28th, in the Veterans Memorial Watchfire Park, New York State Fairgrounds, Syracuse, NY.
