Walmart Removing Greeters From 1,000 Stores
Walmart is removing greeters from 1,000 of its stores; could the Hudson Valley be impacted?
According to The Takeout, Walmart is eliminating its greeter position at 1,000 stores across the U.S. The task of a greeter was straight forward: greet customers as they enter the store. But now, that role is being erased from 1,000 stores.
The Takeout reports that Walmart will be replacing that role with a position called "customer hosts." Not only will the customer hosts greet people as they enter Walmart, but they will also help with shopping and security.
According to NPR, Walmart employees with disabilities feel targeted by this change because many of them will no longer be able to fill the position. The customer host position will require employees to lift up to 25 pounds, clean up spills, collect carts, and stand for long periods of time, things that many people with disabilities cannot do.
Walmart has Hudson Valley locations in Newburgh, Middletown, Kingston and Fishkill.
