Ulster Woman Arrested For Stealing Close to $5,000 in Benefits
An Ulster County woman was arrested for stealing around $5,000 in unemployment benefits.
New York State Police from Highland charged 35-year-old Sheilann B. Jones-Blackwell, from Highland with 3rd-degree grand larceny, a class D Felony and falsifying business records, a class A Misdemeanor.
Police allege that unemployment money was illegally being collected by Jones-Blackwell when she was gainfully employed. An investigation found that from November of 2012 through March of 2013 Jones-Blackwell received $4,736.50 in unemployment benefits.
Police say an investigation revealed that Jones-Blackwell was gainfully employed while collecting the unemployment money.
Jones-Blackwell was arraigned at the Town of Lloyd Court and was subsequently released on her own recognizance. She is due back in court on March 29.
