Ulster County Man Pleaded Guilty to Sexual Conduct Against Child
A 62-year-old Ulster County man pleaded guilty to sexual acts, including oral sexual conduct, with a child less than 11 years old.
Alan Edwards of Marlborough pleaded guilty Wednesday in Ulster County Court to sexual conduct against a child, a felony.
According to the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office, Edwards admitted that during a little over a year he engaged in two or more sexual acts with a child he knew. On at least one occasion, Edwards admitted to oral sexual conduct.
“As is all too common, this defendant befriended one of the victim’s families and then utilized that friendship to gain access to innocent and vulnerable children,” Ulster County District Attorney Holley Carnright said in a press release.
Edwards was arrested on Oct 7, 2015 following an investigation after a friend of the victims told police of the incidents. The investigation was done by law enforcement officers assigned to the Ulster County Family and Child Advocacy Center and the Marlborough Police Department with assistance from the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office.
Edwards faces 5 to 25 years in prison followed by a period of up to twenty years of post-release supervision. The defendant will be required to register for life as a sex offender.
