Ulster County Man Sentenced For Sexual Abuse of Two Children
An Ulster County man who sexually abused two young children was sentenced.
According to the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office, Alan Edwards 62, of Marlborough admitted that during a little over a year he engaged in multiple sexual acts with a child younger than 11-years-old. On at least one occasion, Edwards admitted to oral sexual conduct.
All acts of sexual conduct occurred at Edwards home. Officials say he Edwards knew the child and child’s parents.
At the sentencing hearing a statement from the family of the victim was read. The letter detailed how years of trust that Edwards built with the victim and the victim’s family was shattered by his conduct. It also discussed the effects of prolonged sexual abuse on a “spunky” and “happy go lucky” child.
Edwards also had an isolated incident of sexual abuse with another child under the age of 11 at his home.
In court the mother of the second victim praised the bravery of the two children for coming forward. Adding Edwards “sealed his fate” when he selected the wrong child to molest.
On Wednesday, Ulster County Judge Donald A Williams called Edwards a “sexual deviant.” Edwards was sentenced to 18 years in state prison and 20 years of post-release supervision.
