A teenager, formerly an inmate at Fishkill Correctional Facility, was charged with assault after allegedly attacking several prison workers.

State Police say an investigation into an incident that occurred in November of 2014 revealed 19-year-old that Francisco J. Esmurria covered his cell windows with a blanket and was unresponsive when staff workers checked on his welfare.

When correction officers entered his cell, Esmurria allegedly attacked them. One of the correction officers suffered a shoulder injury as a result of the attack.

Esmurria was charged with 2nd-degree assault, a class D felony. He was arraigned before the Town of Fishkill Court and returned to the custody of New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision pending his next court appearance.

The New York State Police were assisted by the New York State DOCCS.
