SUNY New Paltz mandated all resident students leave campus by noon Wednesday.

A precautionary advisory issued by the Village of New Paltz stated that residents, including the campus community, should not use tap water for drinking, cooking or making ice. County and state health officials have assessed that bathing, showering and washing dishes or clothes are safe, the email stated.

Due to this advisory, SUNY New Paltz continues to await water test results, some of which will not be available until later this week, and has decided to cancel all classes that begin at 3:30 p.m. or later today, Tuesday, Feb. 11, and continuing at least until Saturday, Feb. 15.

The college is also mandating that all resident students leave campus by noon Wednesday, Feb. 12 and plan to be away from campus at least until Sunday, Feb. 16.

SUNY New Paltz made the decision due in part to a limited ability to prepare and serve food to all resident students. SUNY Ulster issued a second email obtained by Townsquare Media of the Hudson Valley that indicated the college was coordinating with Trailways to offer additional busing out of New Paltz in response to the mandatory evacuation.

The 10 additional buses were available on a first-come, first-served basis and were rapidly filling up.
