Shooter On The Run, 1 Shot At ‘Dream’ Mall Near New York
One person was shot, reportedly in the chest, at a "dream" mall just outside New York. The alleged shooter is on the run and police are asking for help in finding the shooter.
On Thursday around 5:50 p.m, New Jersey State Police responded to a shooting incident that occurred at the American Dream mall in East Rutherford, Bergen County, New Jersey.
Troopers from the New Jersey State Police Meadowlands Station responded to the report of a shooting inside the American Dream. When troopers arrived, they discovered one male victim was shot, police say.
One witness said the man was shot twice in the chest. Police confirmed the victim sustained serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.
"There was a shooting at American dream mall. Man shot in his chest 2 times. The scariest thing that has ever happened to me," a witness tweeted.
The American Dream mall was immediately locked down and troopers cleared the building while safely escorting customers out.
New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy told people to stay away from the area.
"We are closely monitoring the situation, and are praying for those impacted. The public is advised to stay away from the area at this time," Murphy tweeted.
Police in New Jersey say the shooting was an isolated incident and believe the victim may have been targeted.
"Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives determined that only one suspect shot the victim, and detectives believe this to be an isolated incident. There is no threat to the public and the incident remains under investigation," New Jersey State Police stated.
Investigators are looking for the shooter and two others who ran from the scene. Anyone with information is asked to call the police.
American Dream plans to reopen Friday for regular operating hours.
The American Dream retail and entertainment complex opened in East Rutherford in October 2019. Along with parts of the shopping center, the Nickelodeon Universe Theme Park and The Rink opened.
