Multi-State Chase Ends in Hudson Valley with Fight Between Suspect and Police
A multi-state high-speed chase involving a Hudson Valley man and multiple local police agencies ended in the Hudson Valley with a fight between the suspect and police.
Daniel O’Brien, 36, of Cochecton was charged with 2nd-degree attempted assault, 1st-degree reckless endangerment, felonies, resisting arrest, reckless driving, and 3rd-degree unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, misdemeanors.
Officials say they attempted to pull O’Brien over in Connecticut. Connecticut authorities told New York State Police that a Ford F150 they tried to stop entered New York State. Soon after the vehicle was spotted by a Village of Brewster Police Officer. The vehicle allegedly fled when the officer tried to initiate a traffic stop.
New York State Police and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office soon joined the pursuit. The vehicle was eventually stopped on Route 6 in Carmel.
O’Brien exited his vehicle and allegedly began physically fighting with authorities. O’Brien was hit by officers during the altercation. He was taken to Putnam Hospital for the injuries he sustained during the fight.
O’Brien was arraigned in the Town of Carmel Justice Court and remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or bond.
