Joseph "Papa Joe" DiPressi of Wappingers Falls was called home on Monday, August 21, 2017, his mother's birthday, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was 72.
Son of the late Salvatore and Elsie Consiglio DiPressi, he was born on January 30, 1945 in the Bronx. He married Joanne Scaplehorn on September 9, 2006 in Wappingers Falls; Mrs. DiPressi survives at home in Wappingers Falls.
Joe worked for several years as a maintenance manager for Westchester County Airport. He was also a proud lifelong member of the Hughsonville Fire Company. There, he was the Fire Police Captain, former Company Vice President and former Commissioner. In his spare time, Joe was a huge sports fan; he was a lifelong Yankees, Giants and Rangers fan. He enjoyed collecting sports cards and memorabilia. He was also an avid bowler.
In addition to his wife, Joanne, survivors include his children, Kristen Pearce and her husband, Erik of Clay, and Sal DiPressi and his wife, Jill of Hyde Park; step-children, Billy Scaplehorn of Hawthorne, Joseph Scaplehorn of Hawthorne, and Teresa Scaplehorn of Ossining; his sister, Rosemarie Carbone of Reno, NV; and grandchildren, Connor, Kaylee, Dominick, Noelle, Gianna, Joseph, Jr., Billy and Victoria.
He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Daniella.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, August 24, 2017 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. The Hughsonville Fire Company will hold a service during calling hours at 7:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe's name to the Hughsonville Fire Company, 88 Old Hopewell Road, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
