The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey posted information about a change at a major New York airport.

On July 15, 2024 The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced that customers of John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City will be participating in a new program.

John F. Kennedy International Airport, also known as JFK will be trying out their 

"first self-driving vehicle pilot to serve the traveling public."

Approval from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration was needed to allow customers to ride in shuttles. These shuttles are autonomous and being tested in a parking lot at the JFK airport.

Self Driving Shuttles And 'World Class Technology' At JFK Airport in New York City


The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey wanted to thank 

"ABM Aviation for working with us and providing staff to serve as safety monitors as an extra precaution and for customer service during these tests that will include the public."

The Port Authority Director, Rick Cotton is excited to bring "world-class technology" to New York airports along with the experience that customers receive as well. 

This test at John F. Kennedy International Airport will take three months and customers are recommended to stay seated and wear their seatbelt during the tests.

How Much Do Customers Have To Pay At These Driving Shuttles At JFK Airport?


Customers can expect to ride this self-driving shuttle to get closer to their parked cars at John F. Kennedy International Airport with a total of 15 stops.

Customers can ride John F. Kennedy International Airport's self driving test shuttles without any form of payment, there's no cost for this service.

CBS shared

 " that these self driving shuttles travel only at 9 mph."

Thankfully, shuttle drivers will not be replaced or losing their jobs.

CBS also mentioned that shuttle drivers will be on the shuttle buses to make sure that all safety measures are taking place along with will be able to control these shuttles remotely in the future.

John F. Kennedy International Airport Making Additional Changes


On June 21, 2024 John F. Kennedy International airport made a post on social media.

They mentioned that there are additional changes taking place on site. This airport will soon have two new terminals that are huge along with an expansion of two existing terminals that will also be modernized. Lastly, customers of John F. Kennedy International Airport will notice a new parking garage and roadways.
