Warning: Car Break-Ins Increasing in New York

Unfortunately, it is a sign of the times. You have to lock your car. The New Paltz Police Department isn't the only agency warning Hudson Valley residents to secure their belongings.

The days of leaving your car in the driveway unlocked are gone. It doesn't matter if you live on a street in town or off a lonely back road, cars are easy targets. Keeping valuables in your car where they can be seen is a bad idea.

Reports of Vehicle Break-Ins in New Paltz, New York

The New Paltz Police Department issued a press release on Friday, October 13th, 2023 explaining they were investigating a series of larcenies from vehicles left unlocked in the Town of New Paltz.

The incidents they are referring to happened sometime during the evening and possibly in the early morning hours. According to the press release all of the incidents were in and around Henry W. Dubios Drive.

Car thefts and breaking are on the rise in New York. The issue has become so serious that there is now a new initiative in New York to combat this type of crime. The Governor of New York Kathy Hochul announced earlier this year that she had earmarked $55 million dollars to address this increasing problem in communities all over New York.

Ask your community law enforcement what you can do to help in your neighborhood but most importantly keep those cars locked and valuables put away. The New Paltz Police Department is asking anyone who sees suspicious behavior in their neighborhood to report it to the Department (845) 255-1323.
