
Shooting at Soccer Game Leaves One Dead in Poughkeepsie
A violent scene unfolded in the City of Poughkeepsie over the weekend, leaving one man dead and another injured after gunfire broke out near a local soccer field.

According to the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department, the incident happened on Sunday around 6:33 p.m. when public safety dispatchers received a Raven gunshot detection alert, along with multiple 911 calls reporting that gunshots were fired near Stitzel Field on Lincoln Ave in Poughkeepsie.
When officers arrived, they found a large crowd gathered in the area for an adult soccer game and began an investigation, which revealed that multiple people were exchanging gunfire across the street from the soccer field.
Two People Hit By Gunfire
Officers quickly learned that one victim had already been taken to a nearby hospital to receive treatment for a gunshot wound and that an additional victim was also transported to a local hospital. Sadly, one victim, later identified as 46-year-old Carl Chambers, of Marlboro, NY, died as a result of his injuries.
The second victim, who wasn't identified, was treated and is expected to recover from their injuries.
What Happened in Poughkeepsie?
Police said that their preliminary investigation suggests that several people were involved in the shooting, with at least three different weapons being fired. Authorities say evidence collected at the scene indicates one of those weapons may have been a high-powered rifle.

It's unclear what led to the shooting, but police did say that the subjects directly involved have not been located.
The City of Poughkeepsie Police Department’s Detective Division, along with specialized units, is actively investigating the case, collecting evidence, and interviewing witnesses. At this point, no arrests have been made, and police are asking anyone with information to come forward by calling (845) 451-7577. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through that same number.
As the investigation continues, police say they remain committed to pursuing justice for victims of violent crime and keeping the community safe.
