
Police Chase Ends With Man’s Arrest in Orange County
A police pursuit that stretched through parts of Orange County ended with a Walden man under arrest after authorities say he abandoned his vehicle on Interstate 84 and attempted to escape on foot.

According to reports, the incident began on Monday, May 11th, 2026, when City of Newburgh police officers attempted to stop a Jeep Liberty for vehicle and traffic violations. Police say the driver refused to stop and instead took off, leading officers on a pursuit into the Town of Montgomery before the chase was eventually terminated.
A short time later, Orange County 911 began receiving calls reporting that a vehicle had been abandoned on Interstate 84. According to News 12, that’s when New York State Police got involved and determined it was the same Jeep connected to the earlier pursuit.
Walden Man Arrested
Authorities say the investigation eventually led to the arrest of 59-year-old Dino Macaluso of Walden, NY. Although they didn't say how they apprehended Macaluso, investigators said he was allegedly driving without a valid license at the time of the incident. Troopers also said that Macaluso was allegedly seen driving recklessly and violating numerous traffic laws in both the Village of Walden and the Town of Montgomery.

City of Newburgh police charged Macaluso with third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer, reckless driving, second-degree reckless endangerment, aggravated unlicensed operation, and second-degree obstructing governmental administration.
New York State Police separately charged him with first-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer, and second-degree obstructing governmental administration.
